Both take a pair of C batteries. Did not have batteries to test, but both appear to be in very good working condition. Both have been stored without batteries inside, and the battery compartments are clean
The Monkey is labeled C.K. Made in Japan. The body appears to be metal under the clothes
The drinker is also labeled Made in Japan. He has a metal body
