All wood with a hinged back and a lock. It is unlocked by putting one of the credit card sized keys over the lock, and you can hear it unlock, like a hotel door. After it is opened, you can hear it lock, so it will be locked when closed. It also has an alarm for a few seconds if left open more than a minute or so. It has four AAA batteries inside, and appears to be in working condition, we tried it several times. The door is 25” x 15, and it is about 3.25” deep. The inside compartment is 22.5” x 12.5” and about 2.25” deep, less about 1” of foam inside.
