Description:

San Francisco receipt ledger from 1859 into early 1860 (beginning of the Civil War). Believed to be from some type of banking institution that issues checks. Has some entries that say "Assay", so they might have been purchasing gold at the end of the California gold rush era? The receipt ledger is in poor condition, but the writing is very legible and enjoyable to read. A piece of history from San Francisco!
